SUMMARY:Knitwear with Carly Givens
DESCRIPTION:Using either the Olivia pattern from Edgewater Avenue or the Luna pattern from Helen’s Closet Patterns\, students will make their own custom fit swimsuit or tank\, respectively. Carly will explain how to fit\, how to properly cut and sew fabric with high stretch content\, and how to properly install the elastic and binding. Students will need to purchase their chosen pattern and bring the material\, as well as their own sewing machine to the class. A supply list and a recommended vendor list for fabric will be provided upon registration. The focus of the class is to learn the best techniques for sewing with this technical fabric. Once you have taken this class\, you have will have the confidence and skills to tackle more personalized activewear and swimwear projects on your own. Students may pay Carly directly upon arrival. You will have the opportunity to make a replica of one of their designs and see for yourself why they are considered masters of couture. You may choose from one of seventeen patterns\, or you may bring your own pattern. You will learn how to cut and manipulate fabric on the bias and on the straight of grain and take your dressmaking skills to a new level. The class size is small so each person will get plenty of individual attention. The price of the class is $1125 and includes over 35 hours of class instruction\, custom fitting\, and consultation before and after the class. To hold your spot\, a $250 non-refundable deposit it due at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the class start date. The class will be held in Franklin\, Tennessee. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of draping and how to create foundation pattern pieces to create simple designs using a dress form. Students will need to bring some tools but the instructor will also have some materials and tools on hand. A list will be sent upon registration. Price of class includes muslin fabric that will be provided to the students for draping. A dress form is required. There are a couple of dress forms at the store and are available on a first come basis. This is a two part class. Students will learn how to measure and mark their dress form\, drape and true a skirt sloper in the first class. In the second class\, students will learn how to drape and true a basic bodice sloper. The second class\, which will be learning to drape a bodice\, will meet following this class. It is an additional $85 that you can pay (via cash\, check or venmo) on that day. It will meet from 2:00-4:30.

If students want to test the fit of the pajama pant or shirt\, they can make a muslin and schedule an appointment with the instructor prior to the class. DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, the Victoria and Albert Museum presented a collection of Cristobal Balenciaga’s garments in an exhibit titled Shaping Fashion. The museum shared a pattern that showed how to create a Balenciaga-inspired one seam coat. The simple origami-like cutting and shaping of the fabric is similar to a Japanese kimono. Japonism was a design movement that influenced many couturiers including Balenciaga. He created several variations of this cleverly designed coat and is famous for his abstract and voluminous designs. Bring 2 yards of 52″ – 60″ wide fabric\, or you can even bring an old blanket or quilt. You will cut\, fold and stitch a unique coat inspired by Balenciaga.
