SUMMARY:Masters Workshop - June 2026
DESCRIPTION:This five-day workshop focuses on learning haute couture techniques while exploring the artistry of two great couturiers – Madeliene Vionnet and Cristobal Balenciaga. You will have the opportunity to make a replica of one of their designs and see for yourself why they are considered masters of couture. You may choose from one of seventeen patterns\, or you may bring your own vintage or modern pattern. You will learn how to cut and manipulate fabric on the bias and on the straight of grain and take your dressmaking skills to a new level. The class size is small so each person will get plenty of individual attention. The price of the class is $1125 and includes over 35 hours of instruction on haute couture techniques\, personal fitting\, lunch for all 5 days\, and consultation before and after the class. To hold your spot\, a $250 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the class start date. The class will be held in Franklin\, Tennessee. DESCRIPTION:This class is where you can learn pattern manipulation such as moving darts\, changing style lines\, and improving pattern fit; some basic pattern drafting or draping; troubleshooting or understanding pattern directions; and taking measurements to make adjustments to a pattern. Students will need to bring their own supplies for pattern-making such as tracing paper\, tape measure\, pencil\, rulers\, paper scissors\, safety pins\, etc. No sewing machine is needed for this class. This will also be a time to discuss what type of fabric you will need\, including underlining\, interfacing\, lining\, and notions for your project. In the last thirty minutes of the class\, I will demonstrate and explain how to prepare and sew you muslin (test garment) for the next class\, Muslin Fitting.  \n\n\n\nThe class is on the second floor of a historic building in downtown Franklin.  There is no elevator access\, only stairs.

DESCRIPTION:The hand-picked zipper is a hallmark of a couture garment. Not only is it the easiest way to install a secure\, strong zipper\, it is the most elegant. You will never need to use your machine for a zipper again. Bring two 9-inch zippers\, one 9-inch invisible zipper\, hand sewing needle\, thread (any color)\, and scissors. Instructor will provide scrap fabric. \n\n\n\nPlease note this class will be held in a historic building in downtown Franklin\, on the second floor. You will have to climb stairs as there is no elevator access to the second floor.

DESCRIPTION:The class is focused on fitting a muslin (or garment) you have sewn together. Other students may observe as I fit each person individually. This will allow everyone to increase their knowledge of identifying common fit issues and how to fix them. DESCRIPTION:This is an opportunity to get help with the fit of your garment. Students will bring the garment (or muslin) that they have basted or sewn by machine\, and we will evaluate the fit. It is also a time to address interfacing and lining applications\, learn certain permanent couture hand stitches and pressing techniques that will elevate the finished garment. SUMMARY:Balenciaga One Seam Coat
DESCRIPTION:Cristobal Balenciaga created a variety of garments applying the one piece of cloth concept and is famous for his abstract and voluminous designs. In this class you will learn how to cut and manipulate the pattern for a “one seam” coat with a gusset. This class is not about finishing a coat in fashion fabric\, but rather learning how to create the pattern from muslin fabric. Bring 1.75 – 2 yards of 54″ – 60″ wide muslin/scrap fabric. You can cut your fabric crosswise if you have 45″ width fabric\, it will just be shorter in length\, which you can adjust when you cut your actual garment. There is not a paper pattern for this\, you will just cut the cloth based on measurements with a ruler. The instructor will share the necessary calculations for marking and cutting the fabric. You will cut\, fold and stitch a unique coat (in muslin) inspired by Balenciaga. You can then take home the muslin pattern to make the coat in your fashion fabric. No machine is needed. Bring a hand sewing needle\, pencil or chalk\, and thread. Advice on how to finish at home will be provided. \n\n\n\nPlease note this class will be held in a historic building in downtown Franklin\, on the second floor. DESCRIPTION:The hand-sewn method for creating bound buttonholes is fairly easy. It is more accurate and better looking than machine bound buttonholes\, which can be a little chunky.
