Vionnet Class

Exploring the Legacy of Madeleine Vionnet's Designs

I have been a studying Madeleine Vionnet’s designs for over fifteen years. I have read many articles and books and have made several replicas of her some of her gowns. It is a passion if not an obsession. I have learned so many things during this long period of self-study that I want to share that knowledge with others who have the same appreciation and admiration for Vionnet. I hate for this knowledge to be lost.

My first recommendation is to get Betty Kirke’s book, Madeleine Vionnet. It truly is the one of the best sources for understanding her techniques, and I am very grateful to Kirke for extensive research and documentation. The other best way of learning Vionnet, is to do Vionnet, i.e. replicate one of her designs.

I promise it will change the way you look at clothing construction and design, and make you a better dressmaker.

I have tried to document some of my discoveries and processes in my journey of replicating Vionnet, and I have shared them in various blog posts. However, I understand the reading of such can be tedious, and most of us learn best by seeing and doing in person.

Since I do not always have in-person classes dedicated just to Vionnet, I would be happy to do an on-line class/consultation or coordinate a private/semi-private in-person class related to anything Vionnet, bias, silk, or fitting.
